CANARY ALBUM LAUNCH

Well Canary-lovers, the time has come for us to launch our album and share it with the world, starting with…you guys!

We’re gonna be joined by friends and fellow artists Ben Morrison and Lisa Salvo, and special guest Xani Kolac will be sharing the stage with Canary to give us that ‘feminine touch’ we’ve been lacking (sorry Adam, I know you do your best). They’re all extremely inventive and killer writers and personally, I consider it rather special to be sharing the night with them.

You’re all invited to help us celebrate the completion of an album that we’ve laboured over and are proud of.

It’ll be worth skipping church on a Sunday evening for! We’ll make sure of it. Doors at 8pm. $10 bucks entry.

Thanks for all your support leading up ’til now.

How lucky to have lived at all…

I’ve recently been listening to a bunch of philosophy lectures on the nature of death by a guy called Shelly Kagan. It’s been a total head-screw but in a good way I think. Tackling the fear of death, he concluded that it was in fact a fairly irrational fear to have, however common it may be. When exploring what the correct rational response should be, he suggested that sadness could be considered a rational emotion to feel. Sad about the fact that we will be deprived of all the good things in life after we die.

He concluded however, that what seemed the most appropriate, rational response to our own mortality should be a deep gratitude for the chance to be alive at all considering that most atoms in the Universe don’t get the chance to be alive or conscious. He summed up this particular lecture with an excerpt from Kurt Vonnegut’s book “Cat’s Cradle”. I thought I’d share it with you because it’s nicely articulated I think…

“God made mud.
God got lonesome.
So God said to some of the mud, “Sit up!”
“See all I’ve made,” said God, “the hills, the sea, the sky, the stars.”
And I was some of the mud that got to sit up and look around.
Lucky me, lucky mud.
I, mud, sat up and saw what a nice job God had done.
Nice going, God.
Nobody but you could have done it, God! I certainly couldn’t have.
I feel very unimportant compared to You.
The only way I can feel the least bit important is to think of all the mud that didn’t even get to sit up and look around.
I got so much, and most mud got so little.
Thank you for the honor!
Now mud lies down again and goes to sleep.
What memories for mud to have!
What interesting other kinds of sitting-up mud I met!
I loved everything I saw!

In other news, the album will be coming out soon. We’ve still got a few things to organise first before locking in a launch date. Thanks for being patient with us.

Adam and myself performing a cover (fairly poorly) of Bright Eyes’s ‘Firewall’ at the Wesley Anne Easter Sunday just passed. In our defence there were a lot of lyrics to remember. Not much of a defence really considering we had them printed out in front of us…

Thanks to all who came.  It was a great afternoon and Ed, Adam, Ruth and I had a great time playing for ya’s.

It’s been a while.

It has been a while since we last updated this blog. I haven’t been as consistent as I’d like to be.

Anyway, we’re pleased to announce that the album has finished being mastered by Zac who has done an amazing job. Thank you to all who contributed towards this at the trivia night. We really appreciate the support you showed us and hopefully you won’t be too let down by the album.

I’ve decided to upload two tracks here to give you a taste of what you can expect. You can hear them here or just click on the “listen” tab up above.

We’re very excited about sharing our music with you and having a finished product in ours and your hands.  We shall keep you posted regarding the release date, a few more things to organise and a heroine addiction to kick first…

Thanks,

Matt

In the wake of a successful trivia night

Hi all,

Just thought I’d drop in and say that the trivia night last Friday was a success and a great night I think. As well as managing to raise over half the funds needed to pay for mastering,  everyone had fun and for a lot of people, it was the first time they’d heard us play.

Many thanks to all who helped out and of course to all who came and supported us. There was certainly alot more involved with organising a trivia night than what I’d anticipated but I think we managed to pull off a good one. Ed and Adam did a killer job with the questions and media stuff.

In other news, we’re a couple of weeks off mastering so we will keep you all posted with how it’s all going.

Thanks,

Matt
